The Alborz Tunnel Complex is part of the Tehran-Shomal Freeway route, which is being constructed from kilometer 48 to 54 (above 6 Km) of the freeway to cross the impassable heights of the Central Alborz Mountains between Alborz and Mazandaran provinces. Each of the three components of this tunnel complex, which with a length of about 6400 meters are currently the longest freeway tunnels in the country, are connected to the other components by 20 spans of traffic and pedestrian walkways, with a length of about 1400 meters
Due to the long length of the Alborz Tunnel Complex and the limitations associated with it, the tunnels have been designed in accordance with existing requirements and guidelines to provide communication between the main tunnels and the service tunnel at specified intervals. This will allow for the evacuation of traffic to an adjacent tunnel or the evacuation of passengers to the service tunnel in the event of an accident in one of the main tunnels. In addition, parking spaces have been provided for emergency situations where it is necessary to stop in the tunnel.
