Technical and economic feasibility studies have been completed, leading to the initiation of this project. The total length of this corridor is 293 kilometers, with 23 kilometers lacking any existing road. The Boznavid – Dastgerd segment, spanning 15 kilometers, is part of this corridor. This segment includes three tunnels with a combined length of approximately 700 meters. The Dastgerd – Lirok segment, 23 kilometers long, follows, featuring 15 tunnels with a combined length of 7 kilometers. One of the main challenges of this project is access to construction fronts due to the difficult terrain. Additionally, traversing steep slopes requires the construction of long retaining walls to protect natural resources and prevent environmental damage. The road runs parallel to the Bakhtiari River, necessitating construction near the riverbank and addressing erosion concerns, presenting further challenges.
The Zagros mountain range is one of the largest in Iran, characterized by its rugged and mountainous terrain, making traversal difficult. The extensive area around the cities of Aligudarz and Masjed Soleyman is home to many villages that have remained underdeveloped due to the lack of roads and access to urban centers and facilities. This project aims to alleviate the region's underdevelopment and reduce the necessity for southwestern traffic to take an additional 220-kilometer detour to access central Iran. Additionally, the proposed Lirok Dam project along the Aligudarz – Masjed Soleyman corridor further justifies the construction of this road.
