The main road project from Sanandaj to Marivan connects the city of Sanandaj (the capital of Kurdistan Province) to Marivan and the second international exchange center of the country, which is Marivan Border Market (Bashmaq). Marivan is an important border and tourist city in Kurdistan Province and the western region of Iran. The strategic location of the Bashmaq international border, as a gateway to Iraq, is situated in this city. According to reports from the country's official borders, Bashmaq border has been ranked second in international transactions (after Shahid Rajaee Port) for several years. It is one of the largest markets in western Iran, located 15 kilometers from the city of Marivan, and serves as a hub for buying and selling goods transiting through Iraqi Kurdistan. Necessity of construction: From a horizontal component perspective, the current situation lacks a suitable engineering design. In terms of traffic volume, the current situation does not adequately address existing traffic and traffic resulting from future development. These issues lead to the following problems: Speed limitations Increased road accidents Safety issues due to fires resulting from the explosion of fuel tankers in the current route.
The project objectives include: Safely guiding existing and future transit traffic. Reducing energy consumption, travel time, and costs between Marivan and Sanandaj, as well as commercial traffic between the border market and the country's center. Increasing travel safety. Enhancing necessary capacity in non-military defense. Improving emergency response and road safety in various conditions and seasons. Benefits of the project upon completion: Facilitating travel for tourists to Marivan. Connecting the provincial center to the largest western border market. Enhancing road safety, saving national resources, and reducing road accidents. Increasing travel safety. Augmenting necessary capacity in non-military defense.
