The Tehran-Shomal four-lane freeway, spanning 126 kilometers, connects the metropolitan area of Tehran to the northern regions of Iran. It is one of Iran's most complex highway projects, divided into 4 sections, featuring 195 tunnels and 93 bridges, totaling 144 kilometers for the main lanes and 14 kilometers for auxiliary lanes. The project faces unique challenges posed by the special topography, geology, and tectonics of the Alborz mountain range, making the construction of diverse technical structures unavoidable.
This lot begins at the intersection of Azadegan highway and Shahid Hemmat highway, passing through Kan, Suleghan, Imamzadeh of Aqil, Talon tunnel and Laniz valley and finally enters Shahrestanak Y track. The distance between Tehran and Do Ab is about 32 km that consists of two way lanes and a slow lane in the slopes joins the route. The maximum road slope is 6 percent and the minimum radius of arcs is 450 meters. Construction of this section removes a part of the current route passing through Karaj and shortend the current route by about 60 km.
